Grief Counseling
Are You Overwhelmed And Heartbroken Following A Loss?
Have you lost someone or something you held dear?
Is extreme sorrow making it difficult for you to return to your normal routine?
Do you feel “stuck” in your grief?
Sadness, anger, and confusion can completely transform how we think and feel in the days, weeks, and months following a loss. It often seems like we are treading water just to get through the day, and the blur of managing the stress and logistics of this difficult transition can make it feel like a fog or heavy, dark cloud has settled over our lives.
Unfortunately, there is no way to prepare for grief. Therefore, when a death or loss occurs, it can shatter our universe. In some cases, especially if the loss was sudden or compounded by other stressors, we can develop a traumatic response to what happened. If it feels impossible to go on with our everyday routine, or if symptoms of depression and anxiety linger for weeks or months after the loss, it’s possible that grief has become complicated.
While the pain of your loss is valid—and even necessary—you do not have to be stuck in the cycle of grief forever. A therapist can offer you meaningful support on your healing journey as you learn to honor your loss, understand your grief, and create a new normal for your life. Let’s work together in grief counseling to make the pain of bereavement more manageable.

There Are Many Kinds Of Loss, And Every Person Has Their Own Grief Response
Grief is a natural reaction to any type of loss. The death of a loved one is often the catalyst for grief, but a divorce, job loss, move, or loss of a dream or identity can also introduce feelings of extreme sorrow and isolation. In fact, developers of The Grief Recovery Method estimate that there are more than 40 types of loss that a person can experience in their lifetime. [1]
Despite how widespread loss is, grief is deeply misunderstood within our culture and is one of the most avoided emotional processes. Many people bury or numb their emotions instead of facing them head-on, thinking that they will be able to bypass the pain if enough time passes. However, the truth is that grief must be processed, or else issues of depression, anxiety, and/or trauma are likely to surface—and become even more difficult to manage—if grief symptoms are not adequately addressed.
It's an unfortunate aspect of life that all of uswill lose something or someone sooner or later. But grief counseling is an effective, supportive way to access hope and figure out how to move forward. I have been where you are, but I know from personal and professional experience that individualized support can make all the difference in helping you adjust to life after loss.

What To Expect
My grief counseling approach is designed to help you feel better in the moment while also giving you the tools needed to understand and honor what was lost. Through psychoeducation, you will learn more about the various types of grief and how they affect the mind, body, and spirit. With new insights, we can work together to address the specifics of grief and trace feelings of guilt, shame, and regret back to their core so you can develop new associations.
Alongside the valuable perspectives gained through behavioral methods like CBT, you will learn mindfulness skills and strategies for self-care. With a new coping toolkit, you can feel validated in your emotions without being overwhelmed by them. Furthermore, as a therapist trained in the Grief Recovery Method, I can provide you with action-based, solution-oriented practices that will aid in the healing process.
Loss is a painful and complex aspect of life, but you are never alone in grief. Through counseling, you can receive the support of a trained, empathetic therapist who will walk alongside you in your grief journey. It would be an honor to walk with you.
Common Concerns About Grief Counseling…
Grief counseling isn’t worth the expense.
While considering the cost of therapy, it’s also important to weigh the many benefits grief counseling can add to your life. Through this process, you will experience weekly support and space to meaningfully explore and adapt to your loss.
If you are still concerned about the expense, I invite you to contact me to schedule a consultation so that we can discuss cost-effective scheduling options and resources that will work for you.
Discussing my grief with a therapist will just make me feel worse.
I understand that talking about painful experiences may bring up intense, distressing feelings. This phenomenon is known as “emotional discomfort” and is a normal part of the therapeutic process. Confronting tough, painful emotions with a trained and supportive therapist can help the recovery process go more quickly and smoothly. Discussing these issues while gaining essential coping skills is a crucial step towards healing and growth.
I am worried I will have to be in therapy for a long time.
The length of therapy depends on many factors, including each client’s goals, the severity of their grief, the quality of the therapeutic relationship, and the type of treatment method used. Some people may experience noticeable improvements in a matter of sessions while others may need longer to process.
I will meet you wherever you are in this process, offering actionable steps that will allow you to honor your loss and overcome your pain.
